Finance Ministry Secures Fresh Climate Funding

Finance Ministry Secures Fresh Climate Funding

The Ministry of Finance has secured 71.9 million dollars in fresh climate financing to strengthen food and livelihood security in vulnerable regions. The agreement, signed on February 10, 2026, with the African Development Bank, accredited by the Green Climate Fund, will fund the country's component of the Building Resilience for Food and Livelihoods Program. The initiative complements an ongoing AfDB-backed resilience program targeting pastoral and agro-pastoral communities. It aims to expand water infrastructure, community irrigation, livestock facilities and renewable energy solutions, while introducing climate-smart technologies, digital advisory services and broader access to climate finance. Of the total package, 25.64 million dollars will be disbursed as a grant and 46.30 million dollars as a concessional loan. The agreement was signed by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and AfDB’s East Africa Director General Alex Mubiru, who said the program will scale up resilience efforts and shield vulnerable communities from climate shocks.
