Ethiopia has inked an agreement with Russia to jointly develop a nuclear power plant directed towards delivering clean energy and long-term social benefits, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. The deal was finalised last week in Moscow during Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s (PhD) attendance at the World Atomic Week conference. Speaking at the event, Abiy said, “Our goal is clear. We want a safe, transparent, and exemplary nuclear power program for Ethiopia’s bright future.” Two weeks earlier, at the inauguration of the Grand Renaissance Dam, the Prime Minister had signaled that a nuclear plant would rank among the country's major projects over the next five years. In parallel, Minister of Innovation & Technology Belete Molla (PhD) held a bilateral meeting with Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
