Ethiopia Moves 17.57m Tons of Cargo in Fiscal Year

Ethiopia’s logistics sector transported 17.57 million tonnes of import and export cargo during the 2025/26 fiscal year, according to data reported by State Minister of Transport & Logistics Denge Boru. Imports accounted for 15.93 million tonnes, compared with 1.64 million tonnes of exports. Import cargo comprised 4.23 million tonnes of fuel, 9.35 million tonnes of general cargo and 2.35 million tonnes of dry bulk. General cargo rose by about three million tonnes from the previous year, while dry bulk declined. Coffee remained the leading export commodity by volume, accounting for 440,090tn, or nearly 27pc of total export cargo. Pulses, oilseeds and fruits and vegetables followed. Road transport handled 80pc of all cargo, while the Ethio-Djibouti Railway carried 19pc and air transport handled less than one percent. Djibouti Port retained its dominant role, handling nearly 97pc of Ethiopia’s seaborne trade.
