EagleLion, in partnership with the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) and Dashen Bank, unveiled a suite of digital services to modernise remittances at an event held on August 26 at the Sheraton Addis.

The platform integrates three solutions: an agency remittance system linked to the national ET Switch for real-time transfers to over 30 banks with full forex settlement; GiftEthiopia.com, enabling Diaspora users to send products, cash, or gift cards directly; and a unified gateway that brings multiple international money transfer operators onto one platform for greater choice and transparency.

It also offers undocumented Ethiopians abroad a secure channel to send money home, reducing reliance on informal transfers. "Much of the Diaspora’s remittance is not coming through legal channels, and this poses a serious risk to the country’s macroeconomic stability," cautioned central bank Governor Mamo Mihretu. CBE CEO Abe Sano said the platform responds to longstanding customer complaints.
