Ethiopian Maritime Transport & Logistics Services and the Basic Workers Union representing domestic water transport staff (Ethio-Ferries) signed a three-year collective agreement on September 17, 2025. The pact was formalised by Beriso Amelo (PhD), CEO of Ethiopian Maritime Transport, and Mulualem Eshete, Chairperson of the Union, in a ceremony attended by senior officials from both organisations. The agreement, awaiting official government recognition, sets out terms for labor rights, working conditions, and dispute resolution, aiming to strengthen industrial relations in Ethiopia’s domestic water transport sector. It comes amid growing efforts to professionalise the maritime workforce and improve service quality across the country’s ferry and inland water transport operations.
