Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reports a rapidly spreading cholera outbreak in western Ethiopia, with 31 deaths in Gambella Regional State within the past month. Since the outbreak began in February, over 1,500 people have been infected in the region. World Health Organisation (WHO) confirms the outbreak has spread to eight districts and four refugee camps. The surge of refugees fleeing conflict in neighboring South Sudan has exacerbated the situation. A separate, ongoing cholera outbreak in South Sudan's Akobo district has infected 1,300 people in the last four weeks. MSF, providing medical care and clean drinking water in Ethiopia, stresses the urgent need for increased support to health facilities and the administration of cholera vaccinations.
