Chinese Company to Venture into Ammonia, Hydrogen Production

The Chinese Poly GCL group is planning to expand its operations in Ethiopia to include the production of ammonia and liquid hydrogen. The company first laid foot in the country after striking a a deal with the Ethiopian government in 2013 to develop two gas fields, Calub and Hilala, in Somali Regional State. It had also received permission to carry out exploration activities in the area and in the Southern Regional State. With an output of 3.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas a year, the fields are expected to support the production of 10 million tonnes of hydrogen annually for 40 years.
