The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has announced that elections in Benishagul-Gumuz Regional State are suspended indefinitely in light of the state of emergency imposed last week. The Board had planned to hold elections on December 30, 2021. The Regional State, excluded from two rounds of elections held in June and September this year due to instability in the area, has nine parliamentary seats and 99 regional council members. Over 100,000 voters had been registered to vote in the regional state in June.
