The parliament has legislated the controversial anti-hate speech law but with 23 votes in opposition. Two members abstained from the vote.
Tabled by the Legal, Justice & Administration Affairs Standing Committee, the bill faced an intense backlash from the MPs, who argued that it will potentially harm the freedom of speech.
Kassa Gugssa and Adhana Haile (PhD), both members representing TPLF, voiced the strong voice against the bill. Summoned from recess, the session today was attended by 320 MPs.
