Djibouti Port Chief Passes Away, in France

Saad O. Guelleh, general manager of the Port of Djibouti, has passed away yesterday, at the age of 78. He was a brother of Djibouti's President, Ismail Omar Guelleh.

Saad departs this life on October 7, 2019, while he was taking medical treatment in Paris, France. Started as his carrier as a technician, he had over four decades of experience in the port industry all the way from technical to head of the Port of Djibouti, which Ethiopia imports all liquid and dry cargo.

The Ethiopian Shipping & Logistics Services Enterprise imports 190,000 TEU [20 foot equivalent unit] containers a year through the Port of Djibouti. The value covers 67pc of all imported containers via the Port.

"He was very cooperative," said Roba Megersa, CEO of the Enterprise, "whenever we face a challenge, he used to go extra miles to help us."

His funeral is scheduled for Thursday October 10, 2019.
