Food inflation reached 20.7pc, up from 14.5pc in April.

Headline Inflation, the indicator of the cost of living, hit an 11-month high of 16.2pc in May, according to the latest Consumer Price Index from the Central Statistical Agency.

Food inflation that reached 20.7pc, up from 14.5pc in April, has mainly caused the rate spike, according to the report. Non-food inflation stagnated at 11.1pc, a 0.1 percentage point increase.

The Agency attributed the Easter holiday and Ramadan season as contributing factors among others for the rise in the rate.
