Over 468 suspects have been arrested over the past nine months, suspected of causing internal displacements and intimidating those displaced, according to Muferiat Kamil, minister of Peace.
However, as many remain at large, Muferiat told parliamentarians today presenting the first three-quarter performance report of her newly established Ministry.
Over 2.8 million people are internally displaced in multiple locations across the country, earning Ethiopia one of the two countries in the world with a high concentration of displaced citizens.
Many of the displaced are victims of inter-communal conflicts spearheaded by individuals. Law enforcement agencies at the federal government have carried out investigations on 4,043 cases, of which police have transferred half the cases to federal prosecutors to press charges, she disclosed.
