President Sahle-work Zewde (middle), Ambachew Mekonnen (PhD) (left), president of the Amhara Regional State, and Amir Aman (MD), minister of Heath, seemed pleased while attending an event on April 4, 2019, in Bahir Dar, Amhara Regional State. President Sahle-work delivered a speech and danced to music to the delight of ministers, heads of health bureaus and journalists who were present.
The occasion was the inauguration of two medical plants located in Dessie and Bahir Dar that were established at a cost of 2.5 million dollars. The facilities were funded by GE Foundation, Grand Challenge Canada and the Amhara Region Health Bureau.
“Although tariffs have not been set, we are bound to save on transportation costs at the very least,” said Shegaw Maru (MD), medical director of Felege Hiwot Hospital in Bahir Dar, where one of the medical oxygen production plants is located.
The two medical oxygen production plants bring the total number of facilities in Ethiopia to six. The Health Ministry plans to build seven more by September next year.
Medical oxygen, which is a purer form of atmospheric oxygen, is considered crucial in medical practice, particularly during childbirth and surgeries.
