Ethiopia has joined the African free trade area, following its legislators unanimously voted today in its favour.
The implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, which aims at creating a single continental market for goods and services, was voted by 320 MPs, those present this morning, March 21, 2019, representing 59pc of the total MPs.
Ethiopia is the 49th country of the 55 member countries of the African Union. It exports 30pc of its products to these countries. Out of the total signatories, 21 member countries have ratified the agreement and operationalise it.
