Founder of Shoa Bakery Dies

Zemuy Teklu, a businessman who established the Shoa Bakery seven decades ago, passed away.

The Bakery has been a well-known franchise that turned to over 16 outlets in Addis Abeba alone at some point, becoming a landmark for residents.

Zemuy has survived by 13 children, including a daughter who owns Bilos Pastry, a renowned brand in the capital. He was also a brother of Belay Teklu, another business mogul known for establishing a popular pastry house in the Merkato area.

Zemuy, along with four other prominent businessmen, were imprisoned during the Dergue regime. He was a native of Eritrea who moved to Addis Abeba 70 years ago.
