Tewolde Gebremariam, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Ethiopian Airlines Group, has made an "early retirement", the company announced today.
The statement attributed personal and health issues to his departure after 11 years managing one of the largest airlines on the continent. Tewolde has been undergoing medical treatment in the United States for six months.
Tewolde began his career at the Group nearly four decades ago. He replaced Girma Wake, recently appointed its board chairperson by the Ethiopian Public Enterprises Holding & Administration Agency.
The Group will announce its new CEO shortly, according to the statement.
