The administration of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has nominated opposition leaders, including those who participated in the June elections but lost.
Berhanu Nega (Prof.) of EZEMA, Belete Molla of NAMA and Kejela Merdasa of OLF have been nominated to serve in the cabinet of 22.
Berhanu has been nominated to serve as an education minister, Belete for the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, and Kejela as a minister of Culture & Sport.
"The nomination for the opposition is not nominal," said the Prime Minister. "The Innovation & Technology portfolio we've given to the NAMA leader demonstrates this."
The administration, however, has shunned opposition party leaders who have boycotted the elections such as the OLF, OCF, TPLF as well as Balderas for Democracy, which has shown strong electoral challenge in Addis Abeba.
"This isn't the most ideal nomination," Prime Minister Abiy told parliamentarians who responded to the nominations. "No one is perfect. This is the best we could come up with under the circumstances."
