The Ethiopian Communications Authority has called for offers from prospective investors interested in acquiring a telecom operator’s license.
Dubbed “License B", it is the second of its kind following the one awarded to the Safricom-led Global Consortium for 850 million dollars.
Bidders are expected submit their proposals by December 20, 2021, should they have an interest to invest in the telecom industry of Africa's second most populous country.
"We want to encourage more telecoms operators, of all sizes, to be part of this exciting opportunity,” said Balcha Reba, director-general of the Authority.
In contrary to the restriction in place during the tender floated to award the first telecom license, mobile banking services will be open for the winning bidder this time.
The last tender saw two bidders, MTN and the Safaricom-Consortium, though officials hoped more investors would show an interest.
Two weeks ago, Ethiopia called upon prospective investors to make an offer for the partial privatisation of Ethio telecom.
