The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has begun implementing its latest COVID-19 response effort in Somali Regional State by donating protective equipment such as soap, gloves and thermometers as well as raising community awareness of COVID-19 through disseminating educational materials like booklets and posters.
JICA will also provide technical capacity training for 200 professionals and para-professionals involved in the health and agriculture sectors. The support will be administered in Jijiga, Kebribeya and Gode through the Human Concern Organisation, a local non-government organisation.
Last month, JICA donated water supply spare parts and other basic hygiene materials worth 1.4 million Br to the Bahir Dar Water Supply & Sewerage Service as part of its efforts to help combat COVID-19 in Ethiopia. Up to 170,000 residents of the city are intended to benefit from the donation, which included surface water pumps, valves, pipes and water storage tankers.
