Businesses Donate 14.5m Br for COVID-19 Emergency Preparedness

Misganu Arega, state minister for Trade & Industry and the chairperson of the national task force, received the cheques from company executives.


Six more businesses have donated a total of 14.5 million Br as contributions to the ongoing resource mobilisation efforts for emergency preparedness against the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Nib Bank has given the largest amount among these with five million Birr, followed by BGI Ethiopia's pledge of 3.5 million Br. Addis International and Enat banks pledged two million Birr each, while Nib Insurance and Aba-Hawa Trading, bottler of One Water, have each committed one million Birr.

The resources are part of both financial and non-financial aid being mobilised by a national committee formed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and composed of ministers and senior government officials.

Misganu Arega, state minister for Trade & Industry and the chairperson of the national task force, received the cheques from company executives. Since yesterday, the task force has collected more than 35 million Br in donations. Earlier today, Awash Bank donated 10 million Br, a day after the state-owned Ethiopian Insurance Company donated 10 million Br.

Daniel Construction, Ethiopian Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Factory (EPHARM) and Hayder Kemal have also donated in-kind material by contributing 2,500 face masks, 5,000 bottles of hand sanitizer and 1,500 bottles of hand sanitizer, respectively.
