The board of directors of the Oromia International Bank (OIB) has named Teferi Mekonnen as acting president after seeing Abie Sano, a respected banker, return to lead Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE).
A vice president for credit and international banking, Teferi was appointed as of March 7, 2020, pending approval from regulators at the central bank. The board filed the application before the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) today.
Teferi studied accounting at Addis Abeba University, where he also did his post-graduate studies in business administration. A veteran of the banking industry for the past 21 years with a debut at CBE, he also served Wegagen Bank.
He joined OIB nine years ago and served as the founding director of risk management and compliance, vice president for corporate support and recently vice president for credit and international banking.
