WHO Donates COVID-19 Testing Materials

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has donated COVID-19 laboratory testing materials worth four million Birr to the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI). The materials include three real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) machines, 10,000 Abbot Rapid Diagnostic Tests and 5,000 Abbot real-time PCR reagents. Over three million COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the country since the first case was discovered in March 2020. Almost 10pc of these returned positive results. Over 4,400 people have lost their lives to the virus over the same period, according to the Ministry of Health.
