Sweden Proffers $3m to UNFPA Ethiopia Programme

The Embassy of Sweden has pledged 3.3 million dollars to support the ninth United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) country programme, which commenced last year and is under implementation in nine Regional States, including Tigray. The programme aims to promote sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and women's empowerment as well as increase access to healthcare and rehabilitation centres for women affected by gender-based violence. The UNFPA estimates that the programme will cost 112 million dollars, 90 million dollars of which will be sourced through co-financing modalities. Sweden remains one of the largest donors to UNFPA programmes globally.
