Ministry Foresees Resource Development Structure

The bill emphasising on the economic utilization and preservation of mines considering they are non-renewable resources is passed to the Parliament after the unanimous vote made by the Council of Ministers last week. Eco-friendly standards and clear versions of administrative and management schemes are included in the new bill expected to repeal the mining operation proclamation issued in 2010 and its amendment ratified in 2013, tuning the proclamations from the vantage point of incorporating internationally accepted environmental standards and principles to be implemented in mining developments. It is considered a major stride made by the Ministry after its establishment in 2018. According to officials at the Ministry, installing a lasting and effective mineral resources management system along with robust administration improper utilization is instrumental for the modernization of the mining sector. The proclamation avails assistance for the substitution of imported mineral resources with local products by laying conducive grounds for homegrown producers. The bill is expected to enhance the efficiency of the mining sector as part of the Ministry’s target to overhaul the sector. The mining sector contributes one percent of total export and 14pc of total employment, according to the survey made by the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in 2019.
