Six Year Health Financing Program Draws Down

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has concluded its six-year Health Financing Improvement Program (HFIP) in Ethiopia aimed at expanding health insurance coverage and improving access to quality primary healthcare. The Program claimed to expand health insurance to over 50 million people and helped implement a new directive that allowed health facilities to retain and use revenue from their services to expand community health insurance. At the closing event, USAID Deputy Mission Director Eleanor TanPiengco and State Minister of Health Ayele Teshome (PhD) visited the Gurara Health Center, a facility supported by HFIP. TanPiengco emphasized the U.S. Government's ongoing commitment to improving the health of Ethiopians and building a more equitable healthcare system. By reducing financial barriers, HFIP sought improved access to quality primary healthcare services, which is crucial for early detection and treatment of health issues.
