The Ethiopian Food & Drug Administration Authority confiscated and disposed of food and medicinal items that it deemed unsafe for public consumption in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. The Authority confiscated items smuggled into the country through one of the 17 checkpoints, including Bole International Airport. Among the confiscated items are 87tn of expired food like rice, soybeans and oil. About 44.9tn of spoiled sugar was also stopped from entering the country. Drugs, medical equipment and cosmetic products, valued at 27.7 million Br and deemed below the minimum standards, were confiscated at checkpoints during auditing inspections as well.
