Ethiopian Bar Association, Ethiopian Society for Consumer Protection and 253 other civil society organisations were dissolved last week for failing to submit their annual reports and re-register by the Authority for Civil Society Organisations (ACSO). The Authority is adopting stricter regulations following revisions to its legal framework in recent years. Last year, it began implementing reforms to address registration and administration issues that have often been unclear and contentious. Fasikaw Molla, deputy director of the Authority, issued a final notice two weeks ago warning the organisations to submit their reports as proof of their activity. The grace period ended on July 6th, and the 11-member board of directors approved the motion to remove the non-reporting organisations from its registry.   Editors' Note: This article has been updated from its original form on July 22, 2024.
