The Ethiopian Postal Service Enterprise, which has been operating for the last 127 years, has generated more than 230 million Br over the first half of this fiscal year. The figure is 91.2pc of the target and 10pc higher than what it achieved during the same period in the last fiscal year. The Enterprise, which operates just under 900 branches across the country, also reported losses totalling 34.4 million Br last year. Almost half of this amount was found to be missing during audits conducted at 10 branches. The missing 16.6 million Br is under investigation, according to Hanna Arayaselassie, CEO of the Enterprise. The Enterprise has been undertaking a series of reforms since May 2020, hoping to modernise its offices, optimise its operations, and provide better service to its clients. The reforms being carried out include key structural changes, minimising costs, introducing new guidelines and service prices, enhancing mail security and building a new website. As part of the efforts, the Enterprise updated its operational manuals and guidelines, which had previously remained unchanged for at least a decade. The Enterprise is also working with the German Post to identify gaps and improve its capabilities as part of an agreement reached between the Ministry of Innovation & Technology and the German Ministry of Economy & Energy. As part of its efforts to support communities, the Enterprise relayed that it has contributed about four million Birr to internally-displaced persons and institutions working to support vulnerable groups over the six-month period.
