Parliament Delegates Task Force to Oversee Infrastructure Projects

Dec 26 , 2020

The parliament has called for establishing a federal task force that will be mandated to oversee and regulate infrastructure projects across the country. Ahmed Shide, minister of Finance, endorsed the establishment of a task force to regulate infrastructure projects. He explained that infrastructure developers often interfere with one another's projects due to a lack of communication between them and that this has huge cost implications for the country. In a meeting led by Speaker of the House Tagesse Chafo held earlier this week, the Standing Committee for Urban Development, Construction & Transport Affairs discussed issues currently facing public infrastructure projects including delays and overspending. The Speaker elaborated on the need for an inclusive protocol through which entities such as Ethio telecom, Ethiopian Electric Power, and water and sewerage authorities can work with the Roads Authority and other institutions involved in infrastructure development.
