Council Approves Record 2.34 Trillion Br Budget Bill

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's (PhD) administration has put forth a federal budget of 2.34 trillion Br for the 2026/27 fiscal year.

The budget bill was introduced today, Tuesday, June 09, 2026, following the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers. It is designated for recurrent and capital expenditures, subsidies to regional states, and to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The budget bill has been forwarded to federal legislators for their review. Should it pass Parliament, the budget will represent the largest federal fund, compromising an increase of nearly 21pc compared to the current fiscal year.
