Ministry Kicks Off Black Lion Hospital Renovation

As part of its health centre renovation programme, the Ministry of Health has kicked off a project to renovate the five decade old Black Lion Hospital. The teaching hospital operating under Addis Abeba University is considered a hub of advanced medical care, but battles with medical supply shortages and deteriorating facilities. The project is supported by the Word Bank and looks to renovate 13 wards, including COVID-19 patient wards, the central kitchen, sanitation, food service areas, patient reception areas and nurse stations. Black Lion Hospital is the largest specialised hospital in the country with a capacity of 1,000 beds and over 3,400 employees.
