Freshwater is “the world’s most precious and exploited resource” reads the latest report by the Worldwide Fund For Nature(WWF) which estimated annual economic value of water and freshwater ecosystems globally is 58 trillion dollars.A figure equivalent to 60pc of global Gross Domestic Product(GDP) calculated by estimating the financial value that rivers , streams lakes and reservoirs generate for humans. Increasing incidences of drought caused by the El Nino phenomenon and an uptake in global temperatures have rendered water resources in Sub Saharan Africa more valuable than ever.
