A man whips away at his donkeys hauling 'teff' for a nearby spice market in the Piassa area. The price of teff has risen by as much as 1500 Br per quintal within two weeks in the capital leaving households dumbfounded. Headline inflation for the recently ended budget year was 33pc according to data from the National Bank of Ethiopia. The rapidly eroding purchasing power of the Ethiopian currency which many within the finance sector expect to become a multi-tiered currency exchange has put a heavy load on citizens.
