Ethiopian, IDC Launch Zambia Airways

Zambia Airways conducted its maiden flight last week after being re-established as a joint venture between Ethiopian Airlines and the Industrial Development Corporation Limited (IDC), a Zambian state-owned enterprise. Ethiopian has a 45pc stake in the joint venture while the IDC retains 55pc. The establishment of the airline is estimated to have cost 30 million dollars. Ethiopian operates several hubs across Africa, including those in Lilongwe and Maputo. The company has also acquired stakes in the national carriers of Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As it stands, Zambia Airways operates flights to two destinations.
