Avocado Export Ramps Up

Hundreds of farmers in the Amhara and Oromia regional states are gearing up to export avocado. The Agricultural Transformation Institute (formerly an Agency) disclosed that 101.6tn of the fruit, around half of what is expected to be shipped out in the coming weeks, has been collected and processed. Nearly a dozen farmers' cooperatives in the Amhara region are cultivating Hass avocados on 200ht of land, according to the Institute. Ethiopia saw its first avocado shipment to the European market last August, with a second batch going out in September this year.
