The Ministry of Finance has lifted the proposed five percent excise tax imposed on telecommunication services. The tax was lifted after the parliament called on the Ministry to hold a discussion with executives from Ethio telecom and decide on the removal of the tax.
The Tax Directorate of the Ministry has already amended the bill and tabled it to State Minister for Finance Eyob Tekalign (PhD) for final approval before it is sent to the parliament for legislation.
The draft excise tax proclamation, which has been tabled to the parliament a few weeks ago, proposed for the first time to add excise taxation on telecommunication services.
