Zufan Abebe, CEO, Nib Insurance SC The 46-year-old Zufan is one of the few female CEOs in the insurance industry. Zufan, a mother of two daughters, studied economics in her undergraduate programme and then completed an executive MBA, both at Addis Abeba University. She started her career at United Insurance and had worked for over two decades since then. Switching between United and Nib Insurance companies, she successfully climbed all the way up the career ladder to reach the level of CEO, which she assumed three years ago at Nib.
What is your biggest fear?
Lightning. I am even scared of dying due to lightning
What was the brand of your first ever mobile phone?
Nokia, probably the 3310 model

Which social media platform do you use most frequently?
YouTube, just to follow up on political issues
What bill surprised you the most? What was it for and what was the cost?
It was the electric bill for 700 Br. I used to pay less than 300 Br a month
How long do you spend on your phone?
I receive between 30 to 35 calls a day. If I spend at least 10 minutes on average, it would be like five to six hours a day.
Which foreign meal/food did you not like after tasting it?
There is no meal I tasted that I have hated.
Where do you want to go on earth before you die?
The Amazon rainforest in Latin America.
What is your biggest regret?
I have no major regrets in my life
If you got a chance to have dinner with a prominent person, with whom would you choose to have that supper?
Mustafa Mohammed Omer, deputy president of the Somali Regional State. I really like his positive energy and countenance.
