Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Agency inaugurated a cold chain warehouse with a capacity of 1,104.8 cubic metres of storage. The new cold room warehouse, which sits on a footprint of 3,000Sqm, was built at a cost of over 25 million Br within five months. The project was supported by the Clinton Health Access Initiative. Materials for the cold room were also donated by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). The cold chain warehouse features three independent cold rooms to function at a temperature ranging from two to eight degrees Celsius and two deep-freeze rooms to operate at a temperature ranging between -25 and -15 degrees Celsius. The three cold rooms each have 300 cubic metres of storage capacity, and the two deep-freeze rooms have 100 cubic metres of storage capacity. On top of the already existing 55 cold chain warehouses across the country, the new cold rooms expand the capacity of the agency to store additional pharmaceuticals like vaccines, insulin, laboratory reagents, cancer medicines, children’s vaccines and other medical equipment safely. The inauguration was held on January 3, 2019, at the head office of the Agency, in front of St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College, located along Swaziland Street.
