Over 2.2 million people voted on Wednesday, where the outcome is 98.5pc in favour of a Sidama regional state, officials at the National Elections Board announced today.

Voters in the Sidama Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities & Peoples' Regional State favored the formation of the zone into a federated state. A landmark referendum brought a result in favour of forming what will be the 10th regional state in Ethiopia.


Over 2.2 million people voted on Wednesday, where the outcome is 98.5pc in favour of a Sidama regional state, officials at the National Elections Board announced today.
