Agency Partially Lifts Ban on Daytime Heavy Truck Mov't

Addis Abeba Traffic Management Agency partially lifted the ban it imposed on the daytime movement of heavy vehicles starting from October 7, 2019. Jiregna Hirpa, director of the Agency, who has admitted that the ban had an economic impact on the capital, announced the lifting of the ban. With the new schedule, heavy trucks can move in the city from 10:00am to 4:00pm on weekdays and with no time limitation on weekends and holidays. The enforcement of the ban on daytime movement of heavy vehicles that weigh more than 2.5tn had been imposed since July 8, 2019. The ban was enacted with the aim of decreasing traffic congestion, pollution and accidents. Light freight trucks like the Isuzu NPR with a weight between 2.5tn and 3.5tn had not been able to operate in the city between 6:30am to 10:00am and from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. And also heavy trucks that weigh more than 3.5tn had not been able to move within the city from 6:30am to 8:00pm.
