New Television Channel Goes on Air

A new television channel branded as TV9 has launched satellite broadcasting services in Amharic, joining 30 others up on air Founded by HiAs Multi-Media & Communication Plc, the channel will focus on entertainment, social issues, business and investment. The company has acquired a private satellite TV broadcasting license from the Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority, the federal regulator. When it becomes fully operational, TV9 is expected to create job opportunities for more than 60 people. The Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, which started operations in November 1964, is the pioneer state-owned channel in the country and broadcasts to 4.3 million households using satellite dishes, according to a media survey report released in March 2017.
