Eth-Switch S.C., the country’s national payment switch, recorded a milestone after its interoperable instant payment platform, Ethio-Pay-IPS, processed more than one million transactions in a single day, with a total value exceeding five billion birr. The achievement came as Eth-Switch and its technology partner, BPC, received The Asian Banker’s 2026 award for Best Financial Inclusion Technology Initiative in Africa. Powered by BPC’s SmartVista platform, Ethio-Pay-IPS connects the National Bank of Ethiopia(NBE), commercial banks, microfinance institutions and payment operators, enabling real-time transfers, wallet services, unified QR payments and request-to-pay functions.
