Africa Agriculture Project Launches in Ethiopia

A 10-year-old agriculture project has been launched in a partnership between Canada and Australia with seven African countries including Ethiopia. The Cultivate Africa Future Fund project is worth 34 million Canadian dollars. Ethiopia’s share of the project funding is 2.8 million dollars, and it will mainly focus on sorghum production. The project is significant to modernize agriculture with research and technology, as well as build human resource capacity, according to Mandefro Negusse, general director of the Ethiopian Institute for Agriculture Research. “Africa and Australia share similar environmental constraints,” said Peter Doyle, Australia’s ambassador to Ethiopia. “Australian expertise and research are highly relevant to Africa.”
