Ethiopia’s political parties present a complex picture of representation, where percentages and scale tell different stories. The Wolene People’s Democratic Party achieves perfect parity with 50pc women among its 10 candidates, while the Argoba Unity Jebarti Party and the Wolayta People’s Democratic Front also show strong commitment at 48.02pc and 46.27pc respectively, though each fields fewer than 200 candidates. In contrast, the Prosperity Party records a lower share at 38.81pc, yet its vast slate of 2,950 candidates includes 1,145 women, making its impact far greater in absolute terms. Smaller parties such as One Ethiopia Democratic Party (34.57pc) and NaMA (34.29pc) demonstrate focused parity within limited rosters, while larger organizations like the Renaissance Party, with 133 women at 42.22pc, and the Prosperity Party highlight how even modest percentages translate into significant representation when the candidate pool is large.
