The Addis Ababa Finance Bureau has signed an agreement with the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) to extend internet banking services across accounts linked to 119 woredas, 600 schools, and health centers. Led by Abdulqadir Redwan, the bureau said the move is aimed at modernizing financial management systems and strengthening oversight of city development projects. CBE Wholesale Banking President Eskinder Asfaw (PhD) noted that about 99pc of federal institutions already rely on the bank’s internet banking services. The bureau said the platform will improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public finance management, adding that CBE has already been supporting digital payments across services such as utilities, traffic fines, and education-related transactions. CBE reported more than 15.4 trillion Br in digital transactions in recent years. The latest agreement is expected to further integrate Addis Abeba’s financial operations into a unified digital system, supporting round-the-clock service delivery across expanding urban programs.
