Wegagen Bank has signed a deal with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to expand its trade finance capacity through a 10 million dollar guarantee facility. The agreement, signed by CEO Aklilu Wubet (PhD) and IFC Country Manager Madalo Minofu, brings the bank into IFC’s Global Trade Finance Program, which supports cross-border trade through risk-sharing guarantees. The facility is expected to ease payment risks for importers and exporters, with a focus on improving access for small and medium enterprises. Bank officials say the partnership will strengthen risk management and trade operations, while the IFC notes it will help address persistent financing gaps in the sector.
