LakiPay Financial Technologies S.C. has entered the country's growing digital payments market after securing a Payment System Operator license from the National Bank of Ethiopia in February 2025. The company says its launch supports the government’s Digital Ethiopia 2030 agenda by expanding accessible and inclusive financial technology services. LakiPay plans to integrate international payment networks such as Visa and Mastercard with domestic platforms including Telebirr, CBE Birr, and M-Pesa, aiming to simplify cross-border and local transactions for businesses and consumers. The company’s LakiPay Super App combines several services in one platform, including rent management tools, e-commerce solutions for merchants, a free ERP system for businesses, and a digital cash register that issues legally recognised receipts while supporting electronic payments. It also features a hospital management system designed for healthcare providers. LakiPay has embedded artificial intelligence into the platform through a voice assistant called "Ras," which allows users to access services in Amharic, Afaan Oromo, and Tigrigna. Executives say the integrated platform is intended to accelerate digital payments adoption and support the expanding digital economy.
