Ethiopia has produced 300 drones over the past three months, marking a milestone in its push to localise advanced technology manufacturing. The Information Network Security Administration (INSA) disclosed the development while presenting its quarterly report to Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs. Deputy Director General Daniel Guta said the drones were developed through joint efforts between SkyWin and AeroAbay. While both companies have the capacity to build drones for security and commercial use, the latest batch is designed mainly for entertainment and income generation, targeting both domestic and regional markets. Locally made drones were previously showcased during the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam(GERD) inauguration and the Irreecha festival. INSA has revealed that hundreds more are under production, with government orders for specialised models in progress and efforts underway to secure raw materials to scale up to mass production.
