Vietnam Deepens Diplomatic Ties with Ethiopia

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and his Vietnamese counterpart, Phm Minh Chính, oversaw the signing of a series of cooperation agreements during Abiy’s official visit to Hanoi—the first by an Ethiopian leader in over half a century. Two memoranda of understanding were signed to expand collaboration in trade and education, while a civil aviation agreement was also concluded, setting the stage for Ethiopian Airlines to begin direct flights between Addis Abeba and Hanoi. Marking more than 50 years of diplomatic relations, both countries expressed optimism that the agreements would open doors to deeper engagement across key sectors. Following the ceremony, the two leaders led bilateral talks alongside their delegations. Discussions covered domestic reforms and outlined potential areas for political and economic cooperation, including investment and knowledge exchange.
