Electric Utility Generates 23.83 Billion Br in Revenue in Six Months

Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) reported strong growth in the first half of the fiscal year. The Utility’s revenue from energy and related sales reached 23.83 billion Br, with a provisional net income of 1.57 billion Br. It stated that it connected 235,852 new customers, bringing its total customer base to 4.98 million. This expansion drove a 13.6pc rise in electricity consumption, reaching 7,213 GWh compared to the same period last year. EEU planned to connect 324,925 new customers in the first seven months of the fiscal year and achieved 77pc of this target, adding 249,658 customers, a 21pc increase compared to the same period last year. Currently, EEU serves over five million customers out of which four million use postpaid meters, around 871,000 use prepaid meters, and a little over forty thousand use smart meters.
